Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Research types, properties and applications of glues used in production of wood products
  • Identify glue types by exposure categories, end-use, preparation and supplier product name
  • Identify hazards associated with handling, transporting, storing and disposing of glues
  • Identify legislation, standards and codes of practice relevant to gluing operations
  • Determine safe practices for handling, transporting, storing and disposing of glue, glue waste and containers
  • Assess factors that influence shelf-life of glues, and work practices that maximise shelf-life of glues
  • Investigate factors that influence glue application and bonding
  • Identify glue ingredient specifications used in the workplace, and actions to be taken with out-of-specification ingredients

Element: Investigate gluing systems used in production of wood products
  • Identify types, functions and components of semi-automatic and automatic systems for dosing, mixing and applying glues
  • Identify operating parameters and processing capacity of gluing systems

Element: Identify glue testing procedures used in production of wood products
  • Identify types and purpose of glue testing procedures
  • Identify outcomes of glue testing and action to be taken if glue is out-of- specification

Element: Determine causes of adhesion failures in production of wood products
  • Identify causes of adhesion failure
  • Identify physical characteristics that indicate likely cause of adhesion failure
  • Verify process for determining adhesion failure

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
